The MOD4 DIN rail mounted modem transmits serial RS-232 data, two clocks, and all control lines over a pair of optical fibers. The modem passes synchronous data at any rate up to 100 kbps, and asynchronous data at any rate up to 200 kbps.
Singlemode or multimode fiber may be used interchangeably. If link integrity is critical, redundant optics and power supplies can be used. The MOD4-DCE version connects to a DTE, such as computer. It has an on board bit rate generator which outputs a clock if needed.
The MOD4-DTE connects to a DCE, such as a modem. When the DCE and DTE version are used together, the modems simulate a straight through cable. A DCE to DCE, or DTE to DTE configuration is also valid.
We're very happy with the multiplexers that you supplied. The nature of the customer’s installation means that we won’t hear general feedback unless things go wrong – we’ve not received any complaints so assume that there have not been any problems. We found the equipment straight forward to set up using the supplied documentation.
